4 Baked Healthy Diwali Recipes Which You Cannot Miss

 

Diwali is the festival of lights and what could light up us more than a good meal or a snack during the festive season? But weight management becomes more difficult with the delicacies and sweets that are made during festivals.

Diwali always comes with an extravaganza of dishes. From delicious sweets to mouth watering snacks, Diwali is a ticket to feasting. You can enjoy the innovative healthy dishes with a tweaking of traditional elements. Revel in the Pooja’s  and Diwali festivities without worrying about calories.

Follow these simple yet delicious baked dishes which are low in calorie and high in nutrients. The cooking methods are incredible easy with less ingredients.

  1. Whole Wheat Nankhatai

Nankhatai is usually made with all purpose flour but as a healthier version whole wheat flour can be used. Add in some sugar but you can always burn it on the treadmill!

Ingredients:

  • Whole wheat flour – 1 cup

  • Gram flour -1/4th cup

  • Powdered sugar- ½ cup

  • Cardamom powder – ½ tsp

  • Ghee -1/3 cup

  • Milk – 1-2 tsp

Recipe:

  • Pre heat the oven at 180°c for about 15 minutes.

  • Take a tray and line it with a parchment paper or with ghee

  • Sieve the dry flours along with cardamom powder in a deep mixing bowl and mix them well together.

  • Slowly add some ghee to the bowl that contains the flour and make it into a still dough.

  • Use little amount of ghee and make them together. Do not knead the dough, you can also add milk if required.

  • Now make small balls out of the flour and flatten them into small disks. Make some patterns using fork or toothpick.

  • Place them on the baking tray for 20-25 minutes.

  • Serve warm or store it for later use.




2. Baked Shakkarpare

Shakkarpare is a favourite snack of North India during Holi and Diwali, while the traditional recipe include refined flour and ghee for frying ,we can alternatively bake it to make the recipe healthy and tasty.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour- 3/4th cup

  • Ghee – 1 tbsp

  • Milk-5 tbsp

  • Sugar- 2 tbsp

  • A pinch of salt

Recipe

  • In a deep pan add milk, ghee, sugar and cook on a slow flame for 2-3 minutes or till the sugar dissolves.

  • Sieve the whole wheat flour and salt in a bowl and add the milk-ghee-sugar mixture into the bowl to make them into a dough.

  • Roll out a portion of dough with a rolling pin and cut into diamond shape out of it.

  • Place them on a greased baking tray and bake them in a preheated oven at 180°c for 8-10 minutes.

  • Allow it to cool and enjoy it with hot tea.




3. Ragi Chakli

Chakli is made of rice flour and is deep fried which isn’t seem to be so healthy! But that shouldn’t be a reason to not to have this snack this Diwali. Here is a healthy version that can be included without guilt.


Ingredients

  • Ragi flour – 1 cup

  • Low-fat curd – ½ cup

  • Sesame seeds – 2 tsp

  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp

  • Oil – 1 tsp

  • A pinch of asafoetida

  • Salt to taste

Recipe

  • In a mixing bowl, mix all the dry ingredients and add water to make semi-soft dough.

  • Line a baking tray with baking sheet and grease it with a tsp of oil.

  • Add the kneaded dough to a chakli press and press out round swirls on the greased baking tray.

  • Then bake these chaklis in a pre-heated oven at 180°c for about 20-25 minutes to get a crispy baked Ragi Chakli.


  1. Whole Wheat Papdi

Whole Wheat Papdi is one of the traditional healthy snack that you can try this Diwali if you are not a sweet tooth ! Try baking Papdi and celebrate it with no sin.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour – 1 cup

  • Carom seeds – 1 tsp

  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

  • Ghee – 2 tbsp

  • Water as required

  • Salt to taste

Recipe

  • Mix the whole wheat flour, carom seeds, cumin seeds, and salt in a bowl.

  • Add ghee to the above mixture and give it a good mix.

  • Add some water slowly to the mixture and knead tight dough.

  • Keep the dough aside for 25-35 minutes.

  • knead the dough again and make 4-5 equal round balls

  • Take a dough ball and roll it using a rolling pin. The rolled ball should look similar to roti.

  • Using a cookie cutter cut round shapes from the rolled dough to get round shaped papdis.

  • Roll other balls and cut the rolled dough into round shapes.

  • Prick the cut out papdis with fork or tooth pick.

  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper or grease it with some ghee.

  • Preheat an oven at 180° C for about 15 minutes then place the papdis in the baking tray.

  • Bake the yum papdis in the oven for 25 – 30 minutes

  • Enjoy the papdis hot or store it in a air tight jar.
