Busting Myths with Scientific Tips

As an expectant mother, I’m sure every relative, or in fact, every person you know has some bit of invaluable advice to give you on what to do and what to avoid at all costs. From avoiding brown rice so that the baby is fair skinned to ‘eating for two,’ this blog post brings you the facts to clear your confusion and ensure you have a healthy and happy pregnancy.

Firstly, you do not need to ‘eat for two’ as many people recommend. The amount of food you need to eat depends on your height and weight. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is what should be your top priority.

Secondly, caffeine is not something to be completely avoided at all costs. While your caffeine intake should not be skyrocketing, it does not have to plummet to the ground either. A moderate caffeine intake will do nothing to harm your baby.

Thirdly, papaya does not cause miscarriages and is completely safe to eat during pregnancy, and the same goes for pineapples. Mangoes are not unhealthy but a rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and folic acid, all essential nutrients in pregnancy.

Additionally, eating different foods will not have any impact on your baby’s skin color. That is solely controlled by genes!

Finally,  dying your hair is not taboo during pregnancy. Most research shows that it is safe to color your hair when you’re pregnant, however it is recommended to wait until after your first trimester because the risk of the chemicals affecting the baby is lower.

You must remember one thing: whatever you put in your body is what goes inside your child. If something was healthy before you got pregnant, it is healthy during the time you’re pregnant too. If something was unhealthy before you got pregnant, its still unhealthy during pregnancy.

We hope this blog post cleared all your confusion and we wish you a wonderful pregnancy!
